The mandate of the Lethbridge Astronomy Society is to facilitate awareness of astronomical topics by establishing and maintaining a resource center, observatory and library and by creating and running various educational programs and opportunities for the citizens of Lethbridge and area. The facililties, equipment and programs are all funded by the efforts of a small group of volunteers. There are no employees or individuals receiving reimbursement for their efforts. As a Registered Charity in Canada, we gratefully accept any and all donations. If you would like to make a tax deductible donation, contact the Lethbridge Astronomy Society Treasurer by clicking here.
Oldman River Observatory
The Lethbridge Astronomy Society is comprised of individuals from all walks of life who share an interest in astronomy and space science. In 1984, the Lethbridge Stargazers Club was formed and later, in 1988, was transformed into the Lethbridge Astronomy Society. Meetings of the Society are held on the last Friday of each month, with the exceptions of July, August and December. Annual membership fees are just $50, with spousal and associate members fees just $25. Additional information regarding membership in the Lethbridge Astronomy Society can be found
here.
Oldman River Observatory Resource Centre
The main activity of the Society is to serve as an astronomy resource for the community of Lethbridge and environs. The Society has a dome and resource centre located at the Oldman River Observatory where telescopes and a presentation centre with library are located. Presentations to groups such as scouts, cubs, girl guides, schools, service clubs and the like are arranged by the Society's Education Coordinator. These are usually offered on Wednesday evenings at the resource centre in Popson Park in West Lethbridge (see map below) by Society members. Click
here for more information about our education programs.
The Society also holds public observing sessions in months the Society meets, usually on the last Saturday evening of the month, weather permitting. Further information can be obtained by contacting the Society directly, or by watching the events calendar published in The Lethbridge Herald, or by consulting this site - see Events Calendar.
